My pick would be the Coliseum pool at Pelican Hill in Newport Beach, CA. It’s the perfect place to escape the madness of LA. Drive on over, rent a cabana and have a girls day in one of the most beautiful pools with Roman inspired décor and lush greenery that’ll melt away the chaos of the city.

“My go-to spot for the summer definitely has to be Cru in Silverlake. I think it’s one of the best tasting raw food restaurants in Los Angeles.The atmosphere of the restaurant itself is quaint and fuss-free with simple chairs and minimal décor. The food there absolutely speaks for itself. Everything served there is raw and vegan friendly. The dishes are served to portray their passion for fresh and healthy ingredients.”

Its really insane how sporting events such as this and of course the olympics bring out a huge crowd all cheering for something they love. “

Bollare’s Summer Guide: Style Wax Poetic

This week, Kristen Conahan of Style Wax Poetic shares her pick for a summer’s day in Los Feliz/Silver Lake. 

There is never a shortage of summer fun in Los Feliz/Silver Lake. Check out drive-in ‘walk-in’ movies at the Alcove, while you enjoy some of their delectable food and drinks on their garden patio. (Dogs are welcome too.) 

Stop at High Fidelity after, as you’ll most likely stumble upon a party and live DJ set inside their store.  If it’s a beautiful summer weekend day, which it always is on the East Side, grab some wine and snacks with friends, and enjoy the setting sun at Silver Lake Reservoir park. 

And of course, don’t forget the great shopping in the neighborhood. Check out Confederacy Boutique to find unique designers hand-picked by DJ Danny Masterson and Ilaria Urbinati, then pop in the Claire Vivier flagship store (just opened!), where you’ll find Vivier’s bags, French book covers by Leanne Shapton, and select pieces by Steven Alan.

“So far, my favorite summer brunch spot is Super Linda in Tribeca. It doesn’t have an outdoor area, but ask to be seated in the airy front section and you’ll feel like you’re sitting outside but with the benefit of air conditioning. On top of that, the menu of Latin-flavored brunch dishes all include two hours of unlimited bellinis, mimosas or Bloody Marias for a cool 30 bucks - start with a bloody and move on to a bellini once your chilaquiles arrive.”

“My favorite summer spot in West Hollywood is having dinner outside on the patio at the Chateau Marmont. The air is warm, the candles and hanging lights strung across terraces makes the ambiance perfect. I love going there for a glass of wine and sharing appetizers with my girlfriends - and of course the hotel itself has a wonderful history and a perfect reminder of old Hollywood glamour.”
