How To: Dress like an Olsen with Laura Sokol

Next up in our How-to series is Bollare LA’s Laura Sokol showing us the ins and outs of dressing like an Olsen- it’s all in the attitude.

Rule #1: Start with a palette of neutrals. Variations of black, white and gray will do just fine.

Rule #2: Choose looser styles - the baggier the better. Except when it comes to distressed skinny jeans or leather pants…

Rule #3: Throw on a chic coat. Fur, leather, suede, cotton – anything works as long as it’s semi-shapeless.

Rule #4: Grab a pair of your favorite worn in Chelsea boots or menswear inspired loafers.

Rule #5: Sunglasses are essential, and you must make sure to wear them whether the sun’s out or not.

Rule #6: A designer bag on the larger side. Skins are preferred, but a nice leather Balenciaga or Hermès will do just fine.

Rule #7: Jewelry… lots of it.

Rule #8: Don’t brush your hair… Who cares if it’s a mess? Not you. You know you look good enough already.

Spring Cleaning with Holly Bohn of See Jane Work

Spring cleaning is back with office organizing guru, Holly Bohn of See Jane Work! Holly walks us through quick tips to start Summer off right!

Spring is an important time get your office and work life in order.  Once summer hits, the office can become short-staffed with various people out on vacations.  More importantly, if you plan to take a vacation you’ll need to be organized to avoid getting a million emails and phone calls in your absence.  I spent the majority of one vacation in the hotel room on my computer and vowed never to do that again. Getting organized now means that I will have more time to spend the summer outdoors, with family and friends. image

Here are some ways to get organized in the office:

· Make sure your filing is up-to-date and clearly labeled.  For current projects use a desktop file box with hanging files.  While you are out of the office a coworker will be able to easily find the information they are looking for, they can even transport the box to their desk or office for the week.

· Use Project Envelopes to organize temporary projects.  Labeling can be as simple as a sticky note.  This can bring instant order to your desk with very little effort.

· Clean out your desk drawer and/or pencil cup.  Get rid of the chewed up pencils, pens missing caps.  It’s really simple and can have a big impact. A new pencil cup filled with colorful felt pens or matching pencils can make a desk look “done.”

Here are some ways to get organized at home:

· Bungalow Collapsible Bin packed with picnic or beach supplies ready to go.  When the weather is right you can throw it in your car and hit the road.  It can even be used as a table or extra seating.

· I also keep a Bungalow bin near the front door.  Once flip-flop season hits it I end up with huge piles near the front door.  Not sure how the kids leave without shoes.  I just throw them all in the bin.

image

· Pack away unnecessary items.  It may take a day, but your closet will be much easier to navigate if your cashmere sweaters and heavy wool coats and being stored elsewhere.

· While you are organizing your closet, try on your spring/summer clothes.  Get rid of anything that doesn’t fit, because of all that weight you lost over the holidays, or anything that is stained or damaged.  Do the same for your winter clothes as you pack them away.  I keep a canvas LL Bean bag embroidered with the words “Donate” hanging from a hook in my closet.  When I’m rushing to get ready in the morning and I get frustrated because something is stained or stretched out or has a hole or whatever it goes straight into the Donate bag.  Monthly I make a trip to the thrift store to empty it.

I like to spend spring weekends outside.  Whether I’m watching my kids toss the football, swim in the pool or ride bikes if I can be outdoors I’m happy!

How To: Find Wifi with Alle Fister

An awesome Bollare guy or gal is one whom is always in the know…if your nickname amongst friends isn’t MacGiver, you need not apply to being on team Bollare!  We each have our own unique tips and tricks that we seed and share amongst our inner-Bollare-circle.  When Tanya and Landon, whom run our (awesome!) Bollare Tumblr, came up with the idea of sharing a few of our best secrets…I instantly knew my calling to share…how to find wifi in a pinch with three easy tips:

1.  When on the ground: Look for the signage!  When I see that ‘WIFI’ logo, I know you can usually get about 25’ feet worth of range.  There have definitely been more than one occasion where I’ve stood on street corner, or outside a Starbucks with a laptop open!

2.  When on the road…Every now and again, when you get in those elusive first class lounges…ask for a few additional ‘wifi codes’…they’re smart to keep in your wallet in a pinch when you dont get the upgrade, but with the code, you can always score wifi in the corresponding terminal

3.  SAVE the password- when you’re at a hair salon, coffee shop or restaurant and you receive a WIFI password, save it in your ‘chain’ - will be helpful in a pinch!

4.  Ok, ok, I lied…I’ve got 4 - download the app - we love - ‘Wi-Fi Finder’

So there you have it, how to be a total nerd with your wifi searches, but hey, you’ll never miss a digital beat :)
